SP4 DONALD JUNE CORBETT

SP4 Donald J. Corbett arrived in Vietnam October 18, 1968 and was assigned to A/2-501 IN. KIA: 05/13/1969 (Airborne). Corbett is listed on the 1968 Roster. He is not listed on the KIA Roster which covers 1967 - 1968 because he died in 1969. See accounts from the FB Airborne page here.

Donald was selected as our "Some Gave All" recipient for our 2024 Reunion. There are two very emotional stories about Donald's untimely death on Firebase Airborne. The first involves fellow Avenger Louis Pitisci. They met upon arrival in Vietnam and they snapped their ponchos together for a hooch. They bonded under the rigors of being assigned to a Combat Infantry unit and promised each other to contact each other's wives if one of them were to make it home without the other. Louis fulfilled that promise 53 years later at our rreunion.

The second involves reuniting with the family of fellow Avenger Richard Robert Kelly. His sister Nancy Weisheim accepted the SGA award for him at our 2022 reunion in Boise. Richard and Donald became friends after Don and Louis were separated. Sadly, both were KIA on FSB Airborne.
