NELSON SANTIAGO-APONTE

 
Santiago arrived at Fort Campbell, KY in 1967 and was assigned to 3rd Platoon. He went with A Company to Vietnam, December 1967. He died May 13, 1968 in Thua Thien, South Vietnam due to hostile fire.

 


 


Medals and Awards


Purple Heart - awarded the Purple Heart (Posthumously) for military merit and for wounds  received which resulted in his death from other explosive device wounds in the Thua Thien Province, South Vietnam.
Air Medal - earned the Air Medal for meritorious achievement while participating in aerial flight in the Republic of Vietnam. (HQ, 101st Airborne Division; Special Order Number 7864; 29 June 1969)
