ROBERT (JIM) IVY

Jim was on our January 1971 Roster. Sadly we lost Jim to Pancreatic Cancer on 18 Feb 2025.

Jim was the Vice President of the Alpha Avengers Association from 2010-2012 and he was the President from 2012-2014.

EVENTS

"Lives Saved" - Screaming Eagle, Jun 71

FIRE BASE BASTOGNE - A platoon from Co. A, 2nd Bn., 501st Inf., 101st onto Airborne Division (Airmobile), while making a combat assault onto a landing zone (LZ) near Fire Base Veghel, came under enemy small arms fire. Spec. 4 Robert Ivy was a member of this platoon. When the platoon leader was injured, Ivy assumed command of the platoon and exposed himself to enemy fire while organizing the platoon for an assault on the enemy.

His squad, along with the rest of the platoon, drove the enemy from the LZ, allowing the medivac helicopter to come in and evacuate the wounded. Soon after contact was broken, the platoon was extracted from the area leaving five enemy killed in action near the LZ.

To all, sorry to pass this along to all of you, but I received a text from Kathy Ivy this morning that Jim passed away in his sleep. Jim faught a hell of a battle with pancreatic cancer. Jim left the hospital either last Friday or Saturday and would be under hospice care at home. Jim was a great brother and warrior. At this time I don’t know of any of the arrangements but once I find out more I will pass that info along. Say a prayer for Jim and keep Kathy in your thoughts! Love you my brothers, Pat.

To all, I spoke with Kathy Ivy yesterday and she seemed to be as well as possible considering what she's going through. They will be having a celebration of life for Jim on April 3 at 4:00 P.M. at the clubhouse where they live. Jim will be buried in a military cemetery in Phoenix Arizona on April 9th at 2:00 P.M. per Jim’s wishes. If you wish to send a card Kathy’s address is 38702 Wisteria Dr. Palm Desert California 92211. Hope all is well with everyone my brothers, stay safe and healthy!
Please forward this message to anyone I may have missed on this E mail. Thank you, Pat.

It is with great sorrow that I must tell everyone about the passing of my dad, Jim Ivy. A kind and caring man who was loved by so many.
Some may not know, but Jim was actually my Step-Dad, though he treated me as his flesh and blood right from the start and I thought of him simply as my dad. Because of him, my sister and I were fortunate to grow up in amazing places like England and Singapore. We traveled the world and went to exotic destinations like Rawa, Fiji, Spain, and Australia (to name a few). I could write a book about all the wonderful life experiences we had as a family.

Jim was a man who loved his family, his friends, and yes, his sports! He took pride in the accomplishments of his children and showed us unconditional love and support. I will think back on all of the cherished memories we created together. It was a privilege to have you both as my dad and my friend. You will be missed by so many ❤ I will have a memorial video out shortly.

“Kathy, I want you to know that I considered Jim a “Crown Jewel” in A Company despite never being his Company Commander. Every member of A Company who knew him and served with Jim spoke of his leadership in glowing terms….not once have I ever heard a word other than praise for his performance in combat and a “caring spirit” for those he led. He has left us a legacy that will outlast us all and oh how I’ve wished he’d been with me while I led the Avengers. I say that because great young emergent leaders were “few and far between” at that time in Vietnam. Within minutes of my first conversation with Jim I knew what I’d missed….he was a special soldier with remarkable talent (as I write, I simply wish to have more time with him!) Kathy, thank you again for inviting me and your invitation is an honor I’ll cherish for a lifetime. Feel free to stay in touch and my personal thanks for allowing me to be on your Facebook Page. With Warmest Regards and Greatest Respect, Ed Mitchell”
